Like most of you already know, there is an import law which effectively banned the likes of the GT-Rs and Supras from entering the states. Well, that's now defunct... to a certain degree at least. Seeing as how it's 2016, cars made before 1991 can now officially be imported in the U.S. While this still doesn't mean we can have the full-blown R34 just yet, or even the R33, R32s along with a number of other classics are now available for import. But which ones should you go for? Or perhaps more importantly, should you import a JDM car at all?
On one hand, there's people claiming it's better to wait for the R34 and Supra monsters to become legal, and then there's the bunch we're willing to agree with. The people who don't want to wait, not because they must have a JDM car, but for the simple reason that most of the new imports will only go up in value. Yes, you read that right, they will go up in value. Although that might seem counter-intuitive, the fact that it's such a new thing and the still relatively difficult task of getting one here and registered means they're holding great values. If you can find a cheaper one in Japan, you can even turn it around for some profit immediately. In the long run no, it's not worth it for you as an individual, but that's why there are specialized companies doing just that, bringing you your dream ride in your homeland. And for a JDM fanboy, what could be better than cruising around in a RHD legend from the 80's or even 90's.
Apart from the obvious choice, the earliest GT-Rs, the R32, you can now import a Toyota MR2 SW20 or an original Nissan 180SX. If luxury is your preference, you can even go for a S130 Toyota Crown, which by the way make great drift cars despite the size. Oh and let's not forget everyone's favorite, the RX-7, this time in FC flavor. The choice really is endless. Find a company specializing in that and just find something older than 25 years old. It's your turn.
Furious Customs is a great place to find excellent aftermarket parts for your vehicle, be it an import from Japan or a Japanese made vehicle bought here. Go ahead and check out the full offer right here.
As many people (not just JDM fans) have noticed, cars over from Japan have seen an appreciation in their value unlike every other car. It's not just here in the US, but in Europe, Australia, and even Japan. The demand for them has been so large that entire businesses have been opened for the specific [...]
With the popularity of drifting, especially in recent years, i thought i'd take the time and talk a little bit about that. With more and more drifting championships, with Formula Drift as the biggest one, it's normal that people would take interest in the sport. Drifting, in essence, is a driving technique where one intentionally oversteers [...]
