JZ engine

Whether or not you're a petrolhead, you will have at one point or another heard the JZ name. And we're not talking about the rapper either. No, we're talking about an inline-six engine built by Toyota from 1990 to 2005. A name signifying one of the most reliable and tunable engines ever built. The JZ family engine is among the strongest out there. There are several variations of it, all of them extremely capable and reliable in stock form but even more so when properly tuned. Namely, you have two main categories dividing into smaller subcategories later on. The main distinction is this: the 1JZ engine is a 2.5 liter six cylinder unit that was produced from 1990 to 2007. The  naturally aspirated 1JZ-GE was good, but the 1JZ-GTE was the real deal. Featuring two turbochargers and a high rev capacity thanks to short stroke, it was put into the strongest iterations of the Soarer and some other fast Toyota sedans (Chaser, Mark II, Crown).

Then we come to the legendary 2JZ. An engine mainly preferred because of it's bigger potential thanks to the 3.0 liter capacity. Again, there's a naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE version but it's the 2JZ-GTE you really want. In all fairness, we have Nissan and its RB26DETT to thank for the 2JZ. It came as a direct response to the monster of an engine in the Skylines and it actually managed to surpass it in certain areas. Although both are great, the 2JZ is most commonly preferred for swaps as well because it can generally achieve a lot more power with less upgrades, it's great at withstand a great deal of horsepower and it's reasonably reliable for what it is. Sadly, it only came in the Supra and the Aristo (Japan only). Many people convert the engine with a single turbo for more power and less complications.

The fact that the JZ engine is nearly 20 years old doesn't make it less desirable. In fact, it's more popular than ever. People are always in need of a JZ engine and engine internals for it. The foreign car parts market is filled with JZ requests. A good deal of the aftermarket import parts are for the JZ platform alone. Furious Custom carries a lot of high performance import tuner parts for a lot of vehicles, as well as the Supra
