2012
proved to be a great year for Formula One fans all around the world — there
was a somewhat close race for the coveted World Champion title between
Sebastien Vettel of Red Bull and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Alonso has a
chance to win the title all the way to this last race in Brazil, though it
was a slim chance at that.
Though Vettel wins the title, it’s really more of a team sport than anything. His car stayed reliable for the season and he was always very well prepared for the tracks. With such a great team behind him and his superior driving skills, he is a tough force to overcome. During the first lap of this last race, Vettel’s car was spun around and took some damage on the front spoiler. Despite this, he rose from 15th+ to finish in 6th in off and on rain conditions. Jenson Button ended up winning this race with a safety car finish. The race was significant also because it was legend Michael Schumacher’s last. With five championships under his belt and a long and successful racing career, he is finally throwing the hat in (for good!). He had a respectable last season and ended up finishing 7th for his last race. Formula One 2013 – dedicated DRS zones 2013 will be another exciting year for Formula One with the new rule concerning the use of the DRS (drag reduction system) for the drivers. From now on, the drivers will only be able to use the DRS function during two dedicated zones per track for practice and qualifying. The idea is to make it a safer setting.
